Common questions from UK business owners about outsourcing their payroll.

RTI stands for Real Time Information. Under HMRC’s RTI system, employers must submit payroll data to HMRC on or before every payday using a Full Payment Submission (FPS). This replaced the old annual P35 return. Failing to submit on time or submitting incorrect information can result in automatic HMRC penalties. We file your FPS after every pay run so you never have to worry about this.
Auto-enrolment is a legal obligation for all UK employers. You must automatically enrol eligible employees into a qualifying workplace pension scheme and make minimum employer contributions. Eligible workers are those aged 22 to State Pension age earning over £10,000 per year. We manage the entire auto-enrolment process — from assessing your workforce and writing to employees to managing contributions and re-enrolment every three years.
Gross pay is the total amount an employee earns before any deductions. Net pay is what they actually receive after deductions such as income tax (PAYE), employee National Insurance contributions, pension contributions, and any student loan repayments. We calculate all these deductions accurately for every employee every pay period.
Yes, if you pay yourself a salary through your limited company — even a small one. Most directors pay themselves a low salary (typically up to the National Insurance threshold) alongside dividends for tax efficiency. This salary must still be processed through PAYE and reported to HMRC via RTI. You will also need to file a Self Assessment tax return as a director. We set up and manage director payroll as part of our payroll service.
UK employers may be required to process several statutory payments depending on employee circumstances. These include Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP), Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), Shared Parental Pay (ShPP), Statutory Adoption Pay (SAP), and Parental Bereavement Pay (SPBP). Each has its own eligibility rules, rates, and duration. We handle all of these correctly within your regular payroll cycle.
The UK payroll year ends on 5 April. At year end, we submit your final payroll report to HMRC (the final FPS or EPS), produce P60 forms for all employees still employed at year end, issue P45 forms to any leavers during the year, and carry out any final reconciliations. We handle all of this as part of our standard payroll service at no extra cost.
